[The Daily Times, Feb. 2, 2008]

Thirty-five years ago (1971) four boys, ages 17 and 15, left Comfort, Texas in two canoes and paddled down the Guadalupe River all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. Two were brothers (Durdens) Don and James. Peter Krauter, and Mark Rausch. All lived in Comfort and were good friends. Now, these many years later, Mark Rausch has died of melanoma sarcoma and the three remaining adventurers want to tell their story.

This book is dedicated to all teenage boys who not only dream dreams of adventure, but are lucky enough to follow them and live to tell the story!

Only you know if you have the courage.  You will need a lot of all three before your trek is over.  Make me proud of you.” --Bob Roberts, who trained them

This is their story.

This true story, with pictures, tells the tale of four typical teenagers heading into danger, problem solving, facing chilling encounters with cotton mouthed moccasins... and more. Two of the boys kept daily journals that add detail to this book.

Now successful businessmen, the three remaining canoers contribute their perspective, looking back, remembering....
